Glasgow guitar teacher Paul Tasker appearing on BBC4

I offer individual guitar lessons in Glasgow. I will teach you the fundamentals, and the little tricks, that can turn the notes into a piece of music. From absolute beginners to advanced, all lessons are designed to teach technique and musicality using examples from the students favourite genre.

I do not follow a set teaching method but design each lesson around the individual using a flexible teaching strategy that is proven over many years.

These lessons are designed to help everyone from complete beginners, to people who can play a few chords and want to know where to go next to advanced players looking for something new to add to their playing

I am a member of the Registry of Guitar Teachers, and can offer the possibility of studying for RGT graded exams or rockschool accredited guitar grades. As well as the RGT and rockschool exams, I have prepared students for the performance section of standard grade, higher and advanced higher SQA music exams.

In addition to teaching, I record, tour and run my own record label.  This releases albums by my band, Doghouse Roses and my solo instrumental work.  I’ve also had the pleasure to tour and record with many great musicians over the years including Nick Garrie and American alt-country collective ‘The Willard Grant Conspiracy’

Just your guitar, and your phone is useful too as we can do a little video summary of the lesson at the end.  I’ll supply all written materials that we use

I prefer to use songs to learn an instrument, and this is always better if its songs you want to learn.  On the contact form I ask for a bit of information about this and about your playing experience.  This is just so I can prepare for the lesson as I don’t use any set courses or methods.  It’s always good to do a little bit of theory just to understand whats going on in the songs, and likewise scales help with finger independence and soloing, but the focus is on the song, or tune itself.  In addition to any pieces or styles you’d like to learn, I have lots of material we can work through thats chosen because of the techniques or theory involved…they’re all good pieces too

I’ve prepared many school students for national 5, higher and advanced higher exams.  In addition we can work through material for Rockschool or RGT grades (its not necessary to actually take the exam though!)

Things come up and sometimes a lesson needs to be rearranged or cancelled.  I ask for as much notice as possible to give me a chance to fill the space, but if under 24 hours notice the lesson fee may be payable
